Born in Durban, South Africa, Andile Phewa is a distinguished documentary photographer who trained at The Market Photo Workshop in Johannesburg. Andile’s work appears to be a collection of visual storytelling that blends urban life, fashion, and artistic experimentation. The images capture a mix of candid street photography, moody cityscapes, and high-fashion portraits. There’s a sense of exploring the intersections of identity, environment, and human experience, with some of his photos conveying a narrative of isolation and reflection, while others burst with energy and style. Currently based in Cape Town, Andile is expanding his creative horizons, delving into directing TV commercials and documentaries.His storytelling ability and keen sense of aesthetics have made him a sought-after photographer in the commercial landscape. Andile has collaborated with prominent brands, including Adidas,Mr Price, Edgars, Superbalist x Adidas , Superdry, H&M New York, Birkenstock, Ashluxe, Apple Music, Rain, KFC, MTN, Skoda, Santam, Bash, Chicken Licken, SA Tourism and Vogue Portugal.
In 2016, Andile’s work was showcased in the Radio Africa group exhibition in Barcelona, highlighting his international appeal. In 2020, he held a solo exhibition at A4 Gallery in Cape Town, titled "Missing Subject," which further cemented his reputation as a leading voice in contemporary photography.
